FAAC Welding & Fabrication: The Santa Ana Owner’s Guide

We stock and install FAAC-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Santa Ana, with most bracket, hinge, and gate-frame repairs running between $280 and $650 installed, depending on the weld location and whether we’re repairing steel in place or fabricating a replacement component. The work is done same-day or next-day in most cases because we carry steel stock, MIG and TIG rigs, and FAAC mounting hardware on our service trucks. The typical call starts the same way: a gate that’s sagging at the hinge, a mounting plate that’s cracked around a bolt hole, or an arm bracket that sheared off because the operator kept pushing against a gate that wasn’t traveling freely.

Welding and fabrication on a FAAC gate isn’t a generic metal repair. It’s the structural layer under the automation. When the steel moves, the operator fights it, and the operator loses first. Here’s what we’ve seen on Santa Ana properties: ocean air corrosion eating the weld at the base of a hinge post, a crack propagating across a mounting plate after years of vibration, or a bracket torqued out of alignment because the gate was hit by a car and “kind of still worked” for six months afterward. Adrian Vance built this crew on access-control work where a misaligned mount shows up as a failed inspection. We bring that same habit to every residential gate we weld in Santa Ana.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

Our welding and fabrication work covers the full range of FAAC swing and slide gate operators, but the failure points differ by model. The FAAC 400, 402, 415, and 770 swing operators all use a rear mounting bracket that carries the full thrust load of the gate. That bracket is a known fatigue point on heavier gates, especially steel gates over 12 feet long. The FAAC 391 and 884 board-based slide operators have different stresses: the rack and pinion drive concentrates wear on the rack mounting channel, and we regularly weld cracked rack brackets back to the gate frame in Santa Ana.

When we arrive, the first question is identification. The FAAC model number is printed on the motor housing label, but the bracket and mount dimensions are what we verify with a tape measure. A rear bracket for a 400-series is not interchangeable with a 415 bracket, even though they look similar at a glance. That’s the compatibility gotcha: the pivot-to-mount distance differs by 40mm between those two series, and installing the wrong one binds the operator within a few hundred cycles. For homeowners deciding between OEM and aftermarket steel, we’re direct about it: FAAC OEM brackets are built to the operator’s torque spec and we use them whenever the gate is under warranty or the mount face is out of true. For older gates where OEM stock is backordered, we fabricate from 3/16-inch steel plate to the original dimensions. In our shop, the aftermarket part is the one we make ourselves.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • Sagging gate leaf at the hinge side. A worn or cracked hinge weld lets the gate drop a half-inch or more. The operator then has to lift the leaf on every cycle, which burns out motors and shears brackets. The hinge is the first thing we check because it’s usually the root cause of everything else.
  • Cracked paint, rust streaks, or a visible hairline at a weld joint. Steel cracks show themselves before they fail completely. A rust streak running out of a hinge weld on a Santa Ana gate is usually salt-air corrosion attacking the weld from the inside. Once the paint is cracked, the steel is already moving.
  • Gate vibrates or judders during travel. A loose mount or a fatigued bracket lets the operator’s push turn into oscillation. The gate doesn’t glide; it stutters. That vibration is stress cycling the steel and shortening the life of every weld on the gate.
  • Mounting plate or bracket appears bent or the operator sits off-angle. If the FAAC operator body is no longer square to the gate leaf, the bracket underneath it has moved either through metal fatigue or a prior impact. A bent bracket forces the piston to run at an angle, which destroys the piston seal in a matter of weeks.
  • Gate works intermittently after a hit or after high winds. A gate that got hit by a car or leaned on by a large truck often has a cracked weld at the hinge post or the bracket plate. The crack opens and closes with temperature and load, so the gate works sometimes. It’s a structural problem, not an electronic one.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Santa Ana, the installed price for FAAC welding and fabrication depends on what we’re actually doing. A cracked hinge weld repair runs $280 to $380. Replacing a sheared rear mounting bracket on a 400-series swing operator runs $350 to $500 with the new bracket included. A broken rack mount on a slide gate runs $250 to $400 depending on whether we’re patching steel or refabricating the channel. A full gate frame straighten-and-weld after an impact runs $450 to $650, more if we’re pulling the leaf off its hinges with a crane or a lift. Every one of those numbers is the flat price we write down and hand to you before any work starts.

What you get for that price: the steel work itself, the replacement bracket or stock material, grinding and rust treatment on the repair area, primer and paint matching to the existing finish where practical, and a photographic record of every weld before, during, and after. That’s Clause 4 of our Haven Standard: evidence on every job. We photograph the cracked weld before we touch it, the cleaned joint after grinding, and the finished weld before paint. You get those photos, along with a written record of what we found and what we installed, before we leave the driveway.

DIY or Call Us?

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a short list of things an owner can safely check without a welder: whether the gate leaf is visibly sagging, whether the operator body sits square to the gate, and whether any welds show cracks or rust streaks. Document what you find, take photos, and call us. What you should not do is put a MIG gun to a gate that’s under tension from an automated operator. The gate leaf on a FAAC system, even with the power cut, can weigh hundreds of pounds. If a hinge weld fails while you’re cutting and re-welding, the leaf can drop or swing free faster than anyone can react. Steel under load plus heat plus gravity is a serious injury equation.

We’ve also seen plenty of DIY welds that look fine on the surface and fail within six months because the surrounding steel wasn’t ground back far enough or the heat input embrittled the original metal. The repair we do isn’t just the weld. It’s the preparation, the alignment check, and the documentation of exactly where the crack started and what we did to keep it from starting again. If your FAAC gate in Santa Ana is showing any of the signs above, call (657) 286-4793. We’ll come out, take a look, and give you a written price before anything gets welded.
